What do I want to be doing in 20 years?
Running a gap year / alternative school program out in Colorado or the mountains of North Carolina. Participants will spend a portion of the 12 months living at the camp (3 months) and then will be sent off into the world for the duration of their year to complete their project.
There will be a curriculum that involves:
Weekly documentation online via video, audio, or written content
Workshops in topics such as financial education, cooking 101, and design thinking
Selecting a project for their gap year ➡ writing a book, 3 internships to try out potential careers, or traveling to Costa Rica to study the wildlife and create a documentary on a rare species
I’m passionate about people soaking up all that life has to offer and making sure they have the right tools(knowledge) to do so.
Life isn’t all about careers and money.
I see careers as a way to find fulfillment in one section of life; not the sole purpose. To me, careers keep the train moving via personal and professional growth — which are really the same thing, human evolution.
So if this isn’t happening for another 20 years, then what will I be doing in meantime?
Gaining more skills in community building, writing, course creation, and marketing
Connecting with others via podcasting, courses, fitness, and teaching
Exploring the world via traveling
Right now, I’ve positioned myself to where I a few help small businesses and independent creators build online video and audio courses, create social media content, and write newsletters.
My short-term goal is to harness this new position and run with it. I want to help more clients with their courses, but I also want to figure out a way to make it scalable without sucking up all of my time.
My mid-term goal is to get more teaching and managerial experience with both remote and in-person roles. Through this, I hope to gain more knowledge on how to be a great leader.
I figure that all of this exposure to relevant topics, pre-built material, and experience leading and managing, would set me up nicely for what I want to ultimately end up doing with my career.
My long-term goal for my career is to be a mentor for 17-21 year-olds who are not sure what they want to do with their lives but are curious and willing to explore the world.
