I spent last week in St. Pete dog sitting and spending much-needed time with my only living grandparent. During the time my grandma wasn’t trying to fill empty space with chatter about her 14-dollar-a-month phone bill (she turned cellular off 🙃) or how she turned off her AC in the Florida summer (got to 85 inside!!) to stick it to the energy company, I found some time to sit quietly and read.
Neither of the books I brought down seemed particularly interesting the moment I arrived, so I searched B’s house to see what they had. Tried a few fiction books, but had no luck. My last resort was to re-read Matthew McConaughey’s Greenlights. Not one for re-reading books, I remembered how much I loved it when I picked it up last year.
Turns out, it didn’t disappoint.
Here are my 13 takeaways from round 2 of Greenlights:
1. livin is a verb
2. take the hill
3. the truth is all around -- plan for it
4. ask yourself what you want; don't just assume you want something bc others have it
5. define success for yourself
6. we are all made for every moment we encounter
7. be okay going there alone
8. make time for what's important --> shed the rest
9. it's about the people you meet, not the destination
10. don't ask for something, act like you already have it
11. life happens when you get busy living
12. be willing to sit in the shit
13. love big and love proud
